Gains of Nigeria- Germany-China Business Hub

Recently, Nigeria, China and Germany established a business hub in Parchim International Airport located in the North German State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which many industry players belive holds great business potentials for Nigeria and her partners. ISAAC Aimurie x-rays the unique gains associated with this novel partnership.

July 2nd, 2009, will be remembered as a very historic day in the annals of business history! It was a day, three countries were united in a unique relationship where each was party is a winner!

It was a day that a High level business / trade delegation from Nigeria and their Chinese counterpart from the over 100 million population of Henan led by His Excellency Xu Guangchun, the Party Secretary, and Chairman of the standing Committee of the Henan Provincial People's Congress visited the Parchim International Airport, located in the North German State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, attended the one- of- a- kind, international business forum on China, Germany and Nigeria! It was a gathering of also of the major players and noted industrial and commercial representatives of the German economy.

The German government had approved prima facie, the setting up of a flying-land Nigeria industrial and Business Park within the Parchim International Airport which the China based LinkGlobal Logistics Group purchased two years ago after the privatisation process.

Nigeria will be a major beneficiary of this unique business process that is set to bring about good business returns to the country. Nigeria's rich natural resources like agricultural products such as tropical fruits, hides and skin, cassava etc, and solid mineral products will find ready international off-takers/ buyers in the Nigeria flying- land parchim bond free trade zone. Also, products can be imported as CKD/SKD parts and finish assembling in the offshore Nigeria free trade zone.

Mr Jonathan Pang, President of LinkGlobal Group said in his speech: 'we are committed to build Parchim International Airport and the attached Business Park into a China- Germany- Nigeria co-operation base; we are also dedicated to raise the Airport into China, Europe and Africa Co-operation platform of Logistics and trade facilitation hub, and make it the platform for the promotion of world best products, enterprises and shared business processes and technology".

Ambassador Idris Waziri, Nigeria's former Minister of Commerce and WTO Vice-Chairman said in his speech; Nigeria is the biggest country in Africa in terms of population with 140 million people. It is rich in agriculture and mineral resources.

"China and Nigeria have long traditional friendship. The two countries’ trade and bilateral relationship will improve and deepen. We are confident about the future of Parchim International Airport. We believe the rich resources of Nigeria will find its market in Parchim Airport and make the best transit through this platform to Chinese market. Parchim International Airport will hold the world tight for cooperation", he said.

His Excellency Xu Guangchun in his speech said "the Parchim International Airport business co-operation opened a new chapter for chapter for China and German relationship. LinkGlobal Group could manage a German International airport after a competitive international bidding process that saw them emerging as the preferred bidder. This shows the capability of a Chinese company to manage the facility and a solid foundation of China/ Germany co-operation. We see new hopes of solid bilateral co-operation between China and Germany in multi field areas. The Parchim International Airport acquisition has attracted very high attention and interest of both China and German governments. The relationship has also garnered support from all walks of business life; add the professionalism and hard work of a visionary company, which gives me the confident of success of the Parchim International Airport. Henna is the biggest population province in China; Germany is the biggest population in Europe; Nigeria is the biggest populated country in Africa. Parchim International Airport has already linked Asia, Europe and Africa; linking the yellow skin, white skin, and black skin nations together!

"There is a large space for China, German and Nigeria co-operation. Parchim International Airport is the bridge and link for this exchange. Henan Province will make use of the special advantage of the Parchim International Airport to support the international market and support the facility with better planning for business promotion and participation, thereby helping to realise the beautiful future co-operation that will be nurtured through the co-operation and support of the three countries", he added.

Dr Lutz Werner, Director of international co-operation, Ministry of Commerce and Technology, Germany, said in his speech, "today's event will be remembered as a milestone. It is a very special day and full of success. China and Germany has a long history of friendship. The Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao visited Germany and had a friendly and close discussion with our German Chancellor Angela Merkel in January this year. The agreement between our two countries has been signed to promote the business co-operation. Parchim International Airport plays a very important role in Germany. The development of Parchim Airport has attracted the attention of the public. I hope we would utilise the resources of all parties to support the Parchim International Airport to realise the enterprise's mission and make it an international logistics hub.

In his speech, Eric opah, the head of logistics for Linkglobal Nigeria, explained the benefits of the airport, including the reduction of the cost of shipping , logistics and warehousing for companies operating in Nigeria and the West Africa subregion

Linkglobal he maintained, will provide its logistics services with offshore supply chain to customers doors in Nigeria, "we have already got customs licence to this effect, we will store raw materials, spare parts and large orders in this parchim airport warehouse waiting for its demand in Lagos or ship when all import documentations is ready to avoid huge demurages or storage charges that often arise at the Nigerian ports."

He stressed that since the company has the capacity with part ownership of Zenzhou Airport in china and 100 per cent of parchim airport in germany, direct air freight will be arranged from both airports.

"Container shipping in parchim airport is only 20 kilometers from the sea port, our services will include sea and air services, customs clearance, supply chain management and distribution," he enthused.

The Nigerian delegation also included: Mr Sani Abubakar Danladi, Deputy Governor of Taraba State; Mr Omar Aliyu, special Adviser to Taraba state Governor; Mr Ahmed Yakasai, commissioner for commerce of Kano State; Mr Oyeniyi Adebayo of First City Monument Bank(FCMB), Abuja. Mr Abdullahi Musa Bello, Parchim Airport Chief Representative in Nigeria and other private business men.
