Jonathan Pang Invited to Speak on Munich Transport Logistic 2009

On May 12th ~ 15th, 2009, the 12th Transport Logistic was held in Munich. Chairman of LinkGlobal Logistics Group Mr. Jonathan Pang, as President of Parchim International Airport of Germany, was invited to give a speech on the event. The other 24 guest speakers included senior management staff from a number of world famous airlines, logistics companies and airports such as Munich Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Amsterdam Airport, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals, DHL, UPS, Panalpina World Transport, Emirates SkyCargo, etc. The exhibitors came from more than 1760 airports, airlines, aviation service companies, airline agents, logistics companies, logistics and aviation service facilities providers of 55 countries around the world, and the number of visitors exceeded 50,000. Munich Transport Logistic is held every two years and is currently the largest expo of international air logistics.

The subject of Mr. Pang’s speech was “Build Parchim International Airport into an Air Logistics Hub”. Based on his years of experience in service industry like airlines and hotels for foreign guests, Mr. Pang pointed out three common essential elements in success of an airport and of a hotel by analogy: 1. geographical location; 2. service standard; 3. cost performance. Europe and the US have signed the Treaty on Open Skies, which makes the number of flights between the two regions continue soaring, and as a result, Europe’s traditional air hubs Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Luxemburg, Hamburg and Berlin suffer from over density, tight schedule, mixed passenger and cargo handling and night curfew to comply with the EU’s restriction on environmental noise pollution. In the hectic traditional airports, a flight has to either wait in the air or on the ground for a slot to land or take off, and cargo flights always have to give priority to passenger flights. On the other hand, Parchim International Airport is precious in that it gives priority to cargo transport, which makes it a beneficial complement to city-center-located airports in Hamburg and Berlin rather than a competitor of the traditional air hubs. As a public platform for aviation and logistics, Parchim International Airport will provide airlines and logistics companies operating here with high standard airport service as is provided in a five-star hotel.

In terms of passenger transport, Parchim International Airport, in cooperation with Ryanair, plans to open hourly Berlin-Parchim-Hamburg flights, and simultaneously provide air shuttle services between the Continent and the north bank of the Baltic Sea by rapid shuttle flights from Parchim to cities such as Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Ice Island at hourly intervals. In terms of cargo transport, Parchim Airport has recently, through its partner Oriental Sky Aviation Service Co., Ltd, opened air route Shanghai-Zhengzhou-Parchim-Amsterdam with B747-400F in cooperation with China Southern Airlines, shuttle flights Shanghai-Zhengzhou-Parchim-Lagos with B747-400ER together with Jade Cargo International Airlines, air route Parchim-Sharjah-Kabul with an famous English charter company, air route Parchim-Ashkhabad with Turkmenistan Airlines. Not far before, Parchim Airport joined Global Cargo Network, which will bring 6 scheduled cargo flights per week. Parchim Airport will have more than 20 new cargo flights per month by the end of 2009, and thus its air cargo operation in 2009 will be over 50% up than in 2008.

Parchim International Airport lies on the south bank of the Baltic Sea, neighboring Hamburg Port, between the two metropolitans of Hamburg and Berlin, in the center of Europe. It has very convenient traffic, air, sea, rail and road transportation advantages all integrated here. The airport has a bonded logistics park, a bonded industrial park and a bonded business park, which are reasonably and scientifically designed and directly connected with the airport. As the air route to Asian countries from Parchim Airport is shorter by nearly one hour than from the air hubs in west Europe and flights don’t need to wait in the air or on the ground for a slot, airlines can save considerable cost by operating flights in Parchim Airport. At present, Parchim International Airport has reached an agreement with Hamburg Port and Rostock Port to build a customs supervised container station, and plans to open air-sea multimode transport to connect air-rail multimode transport from Urumqi of China. With the building of a comprehensive Parchim Airport Service Platform of Multimode Transport and Bonded Trade and Bonded Manufacturing, Parchim will be eventually become an international air logistics hub in Europe.
