On December 10, 2008, Regionalmarketing Mecklenburg-Schwerin e.V. held an economic forum in Parchim International Airport, the theme of which was "Parchim International Airport Project and New Business Opportunities."

Present at the forum were Federal Senator Hacker, Chief Executive of Parchim Mr. Iredi, representatives of member enterprises of Regionalmarketing Mecklenburg–Vorpommern e.V., and nearly 150 journalists. President of LinkGlobal International Logistics Group Mr. Pang Yuliang and Managing Director of Goodman in Germany Mr. Werner Knan introduced development plan for Parchim International Airport & the bonded parks respectively.

Regionalmarketing Mecklenburg-Schwerin e.V. is a regional marketing organization, its members including a large number of enterprises from the 5 cities in the west of the state of Mecklenburg–Vorpommern, such as Schwerin, Parchim, Wismar, etc.

The state of Mecklenburg - Vorpommern and the Federal Government of Germany have approved to build Parchim area into a regional logistics hub in northern Germany, which can be linked to the three Nordic countries and the Baltic cities of Helsinki, St. Petersburg etc. via the northern port cities of Rostock, Luebeck, Wismar, and be connected to Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, and other Eastern European countries via Berlin.

To make full use of its comprehensive traffic advantages of road, air, sea & rail transport, and the favorable conditions of a 24-hour-operaion permission and a capacity of 180,000 flight movements per year, PIA obliges itself to be an air hub for international passenger and cargo transportation in central Europe. It mainly focuses on cargo transport, and meanwhile develops passenger transport, with Berlin and Hamburg as backup, serving medium-scaled cities such as Rostock, Wismar, Luebeck and Schwerin that are within ＂100 km business circle＂. It will be upgraded to 4F international airport, parking stands increased to 46, suitable for wide-bodied aircraft like B747F/ AN124F/ A380F, runway extended to 4000 m long and taxiway expanded to 55 m wide. The passenger terminal building is designed after the advanced concept of terminal 3 of Dubai airport, which is over the railway that runs across the center of the airport and integrates with the new Parchim Railway Station. The airport bonded hotel is on the 4th and 5th floor of the terminal building, where transit passengers can take a rest without entry procedures. The terminal also provides transit passengers with entertainment and leisure facilities, equipped with branded Chinese restaurant, street hawkers, western restaurant and cafe. In bonded shopping center, there are exclusive shops and bonded procurement center, facilitating bonded shopping for transit passengers. The management company of PIA will cooperate with the immigration authority of Germany to provide convenient entry service and assist Chinese people entering via PIA.

It is reported that the project of Maglev Train connecting Hamburg & Berlin via Parchim is going to be investigated by Germany Federal Government.

Entrepreneurs of Germany attending the forum have spoken their will to do business closely with enterprises in Nanjing city & Zhengzhou city of China. And, they hope that China entrepreneurs can grasp any opportunity attending to Parchim to build cooperation or do business with them.
